Troubleshooting
A score looks wrong
The usual reasons a score doesn't match the day, and how to tell which one it is.
Start with Why? under the dial: Holding it back lists what's pulling the score down, the biggest first.
Check these first
- The activity. The chips at the top choose it, and the same weather scores very differently for each.
- Your settings. Snowpace starts everyone with the same settings. If you like it colder, or don't mind wind, change them on the You tab.
- The forecast's age, shown under the answer. An old one can be well out of date. See No forecast, or an old one.
- The day. In Forecast, check you tapped the right square.
There is snow, but it says bare
The snowpack comes from a weather model's estimate, and the model doesn't know about snowmaking or grooming. Early and late in the season, a hill making snow can show "Snowpack: bare" while its runs are open. Look at the webcam, if there is one, and the place's web site. Then tap Not right? and choose "There’s snow here": those reports are how Snowpace's snowpack readings get tuned.
It felt better, or worse, than the score
- Grooming and preparation aren't in any data. A well-groomed trail can ski far better than the weather suggests.
- The forecast was off. See How accurate is it?
- Elevation. Downhill scores use the average of base and summit; your runs may be colder or warmer.
- Crust, slush or ice. See Freeze–thaw and Rain and ice.
- A big snowfall on skate or classic. Deep new snow holds the score down until the trails are packed. See Deep new snow.
Tell me
If the score still looks wrong, Not right?, at the foot of the answer while Why? is open, sends me that exact day: the forecast, every factor, and what you picked as off. Scores are tuned from reports like these.
